Delve deeper into the history of the continent!

Netflix has confirmed that a prequel to The Witcher series, starring Henry Cavill, is in the works. The series will be set in far past, in an era left mostly untouched by the books or games, bar mentions of certain events. It will follow the origins of the first Witcher and explore the world before Elves were driven out. The show will air as a 6-part spin-off, it is yet unknown whether it will continue beyond that.

“Set in an Elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher, Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time — the origin of the very first Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal ‘conjunction of the spheres,’ when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.”

The Witcher series takes place in a multiverse, which has featured in both the games and the books previously, although the Netflix series seemingly only acknowledges the book series as canon as of now. This may be heavily featured in the prequel as the description hints at worlds becoming one.

The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is set to be a producer on the prequel, while writer Declan de Barra will be the showrunner and executive producer on Blood Origin. No release date has been confirmed as of this time.

Season 2 of The Witcher is set to release in 2021. An animated film titled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, focusing on the origin story of Geralt’s mentor and fellow witcher Vesemir, is set to also release in the near the future.
