The CW have handed us a first look at Ruby Rose in the Batwoman costume. The suit is mostly comic accurate and features the iconic red wig worn by the super-heroine. Ruby Rose’s casting was divisive among fans, but this suit may leave many feeling optimistic at a decent portrayal of the character.
After the planned appearance in The CW’s ‘Elseworlds’ crossover, Batwoman will receive her own show.
The show’s description states that it will revolve, “around Kate Kane, who, armed with a passion for social justice and flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet — in a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”
Batwoman has been an entirely independent character and has even been the lead in her own comic series, as well as Detective Comics in 2009-2010 and more recently in Rebirth.
The CW Arrowverse shows commence this week, with The Flash and Black Lightning airing October 9th, and Supergirl on the 14th. Arrow returns on October 15th (Check out the sizzle trailer here) and Legend of Tomorrow will air on October 22nd. The crossover, titled “Elseworlds”, will premiere on December 9th and will feature Ruby Rose as Batwoman, and the return of Tyler Hoechlin as Superman alongside newcomer Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. Legends of Tomorrow will not be a part of this year’s crossover, making it a 3-night event across The Flash, Arrow and Supergirl.
