Marvel and Netflix have just released a trailer for Punisher Season 2, the hotly anticipated follow up to 2017’s Season 1 as well as a synopsis and a January 18th release date.

The synopsis meanwhile reads as follows:

Former Marine-turned-vigilante Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) has been living a quiet life on the road until he suddenly becomes embroiled in the attempted murder of a young girl (Giorgia Whigham). As he is drawn into the mystery surrounding her and those in pursuit of the information she holds, Castle attracts a new target on his back as new and old enemies force him to confront whether he should accept his destiny and embrace life as “The Punisher.” Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal) serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer.

The cast also features Ben Barnes (Billy Russo), Amber Rose Revah (Dinah Madani), Jason R. Moore (Curtis), Josh Stewart (John Pilgrim), and Floriana Lima (Dr Krista Dumont).

It seems that the upcoming season will be consistent with the first, featuring a dark storyline and further internal conflicts for Frank Castle. It is unknown as of now whether this will be the show’s final season, due to the recent cancellations of all Netflix’s Marvel shows, however, it is likely that The Punisher will receive the same fate.

The series returns to Netflix January 18th 2019.
