Exciting for Who Fans!
It has been confirmed that the next classic Doctor Who story to be given the animation treatment is Galaxy 4! It is notably the the first William Hartnell story be given animation since the 2013 release of The Tenth Planet.
This four-part story was the first serial from the Third Season of the series, which ran from 11th September to 2nd October 1965, and starred William Hartnell as the First Doctor, alongside Peter Purves as Steven Taylor and Maureen O’Brien as Vicki.
A teaser trailer for the release can also be seen below:
Though most of the story is missing a six minute clip from the first episode survives due to its inclusion in the 1977 documentary Whose Doctor Who, and in December 2011 episode three Air Lock was returned to the BBC archives alongside The Underwater Menace Episode Two. These surviving elements will be included with the release.
The two-disc release will include the following:
- Remastered Surviving Original Episode 3
- Remastered Surviving Clip from Episode 1
- Telesnap Reconstructions of Episodes 1, 2 and 4.
- Audio Commentaries
- Making Of Documentary
- Finding Galaxy 4 Documentary
- Photo Gallery
- Production Subtitles
It is exciting to finally see the First Doctor get the animation treatment again, especially as Season 3 in particular is missing a majority of its episodes/serials, and we hope to see more of the Hartnell era animated in time.
Galaxy 4 will release on 15th November, and is available to pre-order on DVD, Blu Ray and in a collectible Steelbook now.
