The ‘Zero Year’ storyline was part of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s critically acclaimed New 52 Batman run; the story focused on Batman’s first year in Gotham during a time when Riddler caused havoc on the city, with Batman attempting to stop the villain. Whether they will adapt the exact storyline in the comics giving the spotlight to the Riddler, or replace him with another villain, is yet to be seen.
The Gotham showrunners also announced that season 5 would bring in more Batman villains, including but not limited to Lady Shiva, Scarface, The Ventriloquist, Mother and Orphan.

The fourth season of the show brought us adaptations of two famous comic arcs. ‘Killing Joke’, written by the legendary Alan Moore, was one of them, occurring in episode 21 of this season. Gotham has adapted the arc before in season 3 using the Jerome character, played by Cameron Monaghan of Shameless fame.
The other arc being ‘No Man’s Land’, occuring in the season finale and setting up the events of the sixth season and supposedly ‘Zero Year’. ‘No Man’s Land’ will also continue into the next season. We will avoid spoilers for the season finale for those who are yet to see it.
Season 5 will focus on Bruce Wayne’s transition into the role of Gotham’s Dark Knight. The current air date is unknown, but may occur at mid-season due to a shorter episode count. We hope you’re as excited for season 5 as we are.
