“You’re pretty handy for the valet.”

The role of Alfred Pennyworth has been cast for the Batman prequel, ‘Pennyworth’, Jack Bannon has reportedly been cast in the titular role. Actor Ben Aldridge will also play series regular Thomas Wayne

Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller will pen the script and executive produce the series set in the Batman universe, this time based around the backstory of everyone’s favourite butler, Alfred Pennyworth. Heller will reunite with Danny Cannon, who will act as an executive producer for the series’ 10 episode run. The series begins production on October 22nd.

The show will be a separate entity from Gotham, and will therefore not be featured in it’s already established universe.

American Network, Epix, has joined the long list of networks involved in DC comics projects. Epix has ordered a 10 episode straight to series order. “As genuine fans of these classic DC characters, as well as the incredibly talented Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, we couldn’t be more excited to make Epix the home of this series,” Epix president Michael Wright stated. “We can’t wait to work with Bruno and Danny — along with Peter Roth, Susan Rovner, Brett Paul and the team at Warner Horizon — on this fantastic origin story.”

The show will act as a prequel to Alfred’s life as Bruce Wayne’s guardian and will explore his time in the British SAS and his early days working with Thomas Wayne in 1960s London as opposed to Gotham. Alfred Pennyworth, like Batman, was a character created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger.

The show does not have a release date, but speculation points towards a fall 2019 release.
