Warner Bros and DC are reportedly developing Blue Beetle movie, which will focus on young Latino hero Jaime Reyes. This will be the first standalone movie to feature a Latino superhero lead.
While the Blue Beetle moniker has been around since 1939, Jaime Reyes made his comic book debut in Infinite Crisis #3 in February 2006. Jaime was created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner.
The character has also featured in multiple animated shows and movies over the years, including the newer Teen Titans movies and the fan-favourite Young Justice series, of which he was a central character in the second season. The character also appeared in live action on Smallville’s tenth season, played by Jaren Brandt Bartlett
Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, writer of universal’s ‘Scarface’ reimagining and ‘Miss Bala’, has been tapped to write the screenplay.
