“I dig it!”

Aquaman has succeeded in crossing the $1 billion mark at the box office, becoming the 8th highest grossing superhero and the 2nd highest for a DC movie. It is currently sitting at number 36 on the all-time box office record, with earnings of $1.020 billion, just shy of ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ which sits at $1.021 billion.

The movie is still out in theatres now and is yet to be released in Japan, but has managed to surpass ‘The Dark Knight’ and is charting a course to overtake ‘The Dark Kight Rises’ very soon.

The movie has made over $288 million in the US, with predictions stating that it will surpass $300 million within the next couple of weeks. Internationally is where Aquaman has been successful, with a total currently sitting at around $732 million and counting.

Aquaman is Warner Brothers best-performing movie of 2018, ahead of ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ which made $644 million and ‘Ready Player One’ with $582 million. The coming weeks may see Aquaman rise even further up the box office rankings.

Aquaman stars Jason Momoa (‘Game of Thrones’) as Arthur Curry/Aquaman. The film also stars Amber Heard (‘Justice League’, ‘Magic Mike XXL’) as Mera, a fierce warrior and Aquaman’s ally throughout his journey; Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (‘Platoon, ‘Spider-Man’) as Vulko, council to the Atlantean throne; Patrick Wilson (‘The Conjuring’ films, ‘Watchmen’) as Orm/Ocean Master, the present King of Atlantis; Dolph Lundgren (‘The Expendables’ films) as Nereus, King of the Atlantean tribe Xebel; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Netflix’s ‘The Get Down’) as the vengeful Black Manta; and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman (‘The Hours’, ‘Lion’) as Arthur’s mom, Atlanna; as well as Ludi Lin (‘Power Rangers’) as Captain Murk, Atlantean Commando; and Temuera Morrison (‘Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones’, ‘Green Lantern’) as Arthur’s father, Tom Curry.

DC’s next outing will be ‘Shazam!’, which releases in theatres on 5th April 2019.
