Hayley Atwell has been cast in the next Mission: Impossible movie, confirmed by director Christopher McQuarrie on Instagram.
Atwell is known to many as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a role she has portrayed since Captain America: The First Avenger, even receiving her own spin-off show titled Agent Carter.
Atwell will make a return in a voice role as the character in one of the newly announced Disney+ series, What If…?, which will be the first animated series in the MCU, with Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as the voice of The Watcher and many actors from across the MCU reprising their roles. The series will be streaming exclusively on Disney+ from Summer 2021.
Tom Cruise and Rebecca Ferguson will both return alongside the newly cast Atwell. There are at least two more Mission Impossible movies in the works, with Atwell set for at least one of the instalments.
According to Paramount, the next Mission: Impossible film has an initial release date set for July 23rd 2021, with the eighth instalment set for an August 5th 2022 release.
