The Batman prequel series has survived Fox’s chopping board, and has been renewed for a fifth and final season. The renewal of the show was rumoured to be reliant on the success or failure of Fox’s Lethal Weapon series, however, this has not been the case. The next season of Gotham will feature a rumoured 13 episode run, shorter than all previous seasons in order to reach syndication status in the US.
According to sources, the fifth season will allow producers to wrap up their unique story and showcase Bruce’s transformation into Batman. The show has garnered a recent ratings boost in the past few weeks, mostly due to its ongoing storyline between Bruce Wayne and Gotham’s own version of the ‘Joker’, played by Cameron Monaghan of Shameless fame.

Gotham stars Ben Mackenzie as Captain James Gordon and David Mazouz as a young Bruce Wayne. Including a massive cast of famous comic book characters portrayed by starring cast members Robin Lord Taylor, Cory Michael Smith, Camren Bicondova and Morena Baccarin. Gotham’s season finale airs on May 17th.
